Conference / Training Opportunities

Eric Simard, doctor in biology and researcher in the field of aging has given a very large number of conferences, as much for the general public, as for continuous training with health professionals or for research centers. He therefore has a great ability to adapt his presentations for any audience. For example, in the past three years, he has presented more than a dozen conferences in residences for the elderly, several conferences at book fairs (various regions), the opening conference of the annual congress of a professional order, two conferences at the 50+ salon (seniors), a conference at the Congrès de la Fédération des pharmaciens du Québec, a conference for a network of business people, etc.

The following subjects are given for information purposes. Their content can be adapted according to the target audience and several subjects can be discussed within the same conference. The subjects discussedwithin the books can easily be integratedwithin the conferences as well.

UPCOMING CONFERENCES

Follow the ‘Vitoli Health and Advice‘ group to be informed of upcoming conferences.

CONFERENCE SUBJECTS

N.B.: This topic is very popular in seniors’ residences and 50+ conventions.

By 2040, in developed countries, almost 30% of the population will be aged 65 and over. It is estimated that in 2050, Canada will have 49,000 centenarians and Japan 960,000. A child who is born in a developed country in recent years has a 50% chance of becoming a centenary.

What if we told you that it is possible to age in good health like the centenary populations and that it is simpler than we think? The impact of social life, positivity and the ability to express emotions, are all factors that have helped to better understand the meaning of human longevity and what can be done in everyday life to be happy and healthy. This presentation will bring together at the same time the latest knowledge on the aging processes, the best recommendations on physical activity, diet, stress and social life management, knowledge on the particular traits shared by centenarians and the close connection between this culture of longevity and happiness. It is also possible to slow down the processes of primary aging and so that the impact will be considerable in human health, by reducing the incidence of associated diseases.

This is a dynamic presentation, breaking the usual mold of scientific presentations, with a touch of humor that lightens and simplifies the subject.

Be able to give simple tips on several facets of healthy lifestyle habits, and be able to respond betterto the questions and needs of aging people. Many of the tips used nowadays are usually not suited to the aging population, or too complex to be understood and applied. However, it’s a lot less complicated than you think and there are a lot of easy tips available. The aim of this conference is to equip stakeholders (pharmacists, doctors or others) with the main recommendations and reasoning, but above all, on the motivational and simplifying elements that make these interventions useful and appreciated.

N.B.: This conference was presented at LE CONGRÈS DE LA FÉDÉRATION DES PHARMACIENS DU QUÉBEC. It is specifically adapted to health professionals.

“The ultimate preventive medicine” is the title of a scientific article published in December 2015 (Kaeberlein et al, 2015) about delaying the aging processes and the considerable impact that this will have on human health, by reducing incidence of associated diseases. Similarly, the impact of social life, positivity, the ability to express emotions and the quality of social life towards happiness are all factors that have helped to better understand what explains human longevity and what you can do in everyday life to be happy and healthy. This presentation will bring together at the same time the latest scientific knowledge on the aging processes, the best recommendations on physical activity, diet, stress management and social life, knowledge on the particular traits shared by centenarians and the close connection between this culture of longevity and happiness. How can we make sure that we are happy and that it becomes the very foundation of our ability to remain healthy?

The last part of the conference will specifically cover the impact of an aging population in the practice of pharmacists and/or other health professionals.

It will be a very dynamic presentation in the spirit of the theme “Versatility … the future of the profession!”It will be based, in part, on the books Live Young, Longer! and Live Young, Two Times Longer!, written by Eric Simard, in collaboration with five other health professionals. Eric Simard will also share with us some new research results and important discoveries made with Concordia University. A touch of humor will embellish the whole in order to highlight the importance of the state of mind as much for the population as for those within healthcare system.

“Since I read your wonderful book on longevity and put my knowledge into practice, I must tell you that even at 73, I have even more exciting dreams for the future than in the past. Up to 120 years or more, that still gives a lot of time, right?” – Alain Bouchard, 73 years old from La Doré

It is currently estimated that only 15-25% of our longevity is explained by our genetics. There are of course risk factors, but not all of them will necessarily be expressed. Why?

Some character traits are genetic and some even influence longevity. In addition, the centenarians all have the same type of personality. Recent studies are accumulating more and more evidence that epigenetics is more important than genetics itself for healthy aging. In addition, certain epigenetic characteristics, not encoded in our DNA, depend on the lifestyle and stress experienced by the parents even before conception.

What is epigenetics?

What about the fact that people most at risk for Alzheimer’s disease could completely reduce their risk, through healthy lifestyle habits?

These two questions will be dealt with in detail during this conference and will be explained in a simple and clear manner for the understanding for all audiences.

The most important thing for genetics is what is read, not what is written.

Eric Simard and Dr. Jacques Lambert, MD, have chosen the 10 most important recommendations together to promote the chances of staying healthy and enjoying life, longer:

  1. Positivity
  2. The quality of relationships
  3. Be active in everyday life
  4. Stress and anxiety
  5. Sleep
  6. Etc.

These 10 recommendations cover all the most important facets of healthy aging. It is also practical advice on how to put them into practice in everyday life. Explanations based on recent scientific publications and on the lifestyle of centenarians complete the overall picture.

Diet is of course a very important factor in longevity, but it is also through diet that science has succeeded in establishing that it is possible to act on aging. It all started in 1935.

Clive M. McCay (1898-1967) was behind the important discovery of what is known as caloric restriction: by reducing calorie intake by 30%, without reducing the intake of vitamins, minerals and essential elements, it is possible to increase the lifespan of living organisms by 30 to 150%. The most interesting is that the caloric restriction makes it possible to increase longevity, not by prolonging the state of old age (weak or sick), but by preserving the metabolic and biological functions in a state similar to those of a younger organism (Cava and Fontana, 2013).

What does this mean for ordinary people? What is the link between fakesugars and insulin?
Could fasting be helpful? Why is sugar intake related to aging?

These are the questions we answer during this presentation.

N.B.: The types of diseases proposed below can be grouped together or be the subject of separate presentations.

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Sleep problems
  • Menopause
  • Joint problems
  • Prostate problems
  • How the body works as you age

For these subjects, the biology and the well documented causes are explained in order to have a better understanding and to better identify the sources for solutions. Risk factors are discussed, as well as risk reduction factors and lifestyle habits that can bring relief or improvement. Finally, if desired, explanations on the use of Vitoli® products are presented (www.vitoli.ca).

N.B.: This presentation can include training on the use of Vitoli® products and can be adapted for pharmacists and/or the general public. If presented to the general public, the title would be: “Natural health products: quality criteria and why use them”.

There are several reasons for the poor quality of natural health products in Canada. Understanding these reasons enables you to better advise/recommend quality products. The limits of Canadian regulations are generally hardly known. The quality criteria for choosing the best products, as well as the reasons why the use of these products should be considered, are presented.

One of the training opportunities on this topic is training in the use of Vitoli® products. It reviews potential interactions/contraindications and the use of products in the practice of pharmacists and/or doctors, with a large number of examples. Over 1,250 professionals have already completed this training

During his bachelor’s degree, Eric Simard started two research groups: one that gave birth to his first business and the other, to the hiring of two new university professors. He held the positions of Vice-President of Science and Development in 3 biotechnology companies, before starting his second company in the field of aging. He has rubbed shoulders with many senior executives such as two of Kraft Canada’s former presidents, Nestlé International VP of Finance [who was on its board of directors], renowned researchers and seasoned managers. He gives a vibrant testimony to his entrepreneurial journey which was fraught with difficulties, but supported by fundamental values. His inspiring journey is a source of motivation for those who attend his presentations.

Live young in music and in health will be a series of programs, different for each season, which will review the most important facets for healthy aging. Each program will also allow you to discover pieces performed by Richard Abel and video sequences taken from his long international career. You can watch the shows already on the website : www.esimard.com

Already booked for two major events in 2020, it is possible to reproduce this much appreciation at your event by dealing with a subject that is close to your heart.

What if we told you that we can prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s? Contrary to popular belief, Alzheimer’s and dementia are not just about genetics. Lifestyle habits have a very big impact on the prevention of nerve degeneration.

What data on genetics, on lifestyle habits of centenarian populations, on the most important risk factors and lifestyle habits help reduce their onset?

You will learn, for example, that two lifestyle habits reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s by 50 and 54%. You will also learn the 7 suggestions from a renowned neurologist to increase your cognitive reserves.

“People liked the presentation so much;they didn’t want to stop for a coffee/cookie break. Everyone wanted Eric Simard to continue”. —SébastienHaineault, Recreation and Social Programs Manager at FADOQ – Laval Region

Dear healthcare professionals,

It is estimated that 80% of people will have sleep problems, either sporadic or permanent. Poor stress and anxiety management are closely related to it. The new recommendations from the 2018 Canadian Family Physician Clinical Practice Guide (Pottie et al, May 2018) recommend deprescribing benzodiazepine receptor agonist drugs (including zopiclone) for all people 65 and older, and limitingits use at 4 weeks for those under 65. There is therefore, at the same time, a great demand for advice surrounding sleep problems and the withdrawal of these drugs. Certain Vitoli products are commonly used for these reasons.
